Do you enjoy the nurturing energy of rose quartz?  If that’s the case, you’ll be interested in learning about the different types  of rose quartz crystals,  the elemental meanings, and chakra spiritual properties.

Rose quartz is a beautiful naturally occurring pink crystal that is formed primarily from silicon dioxide.

It is found organically in several different shapes and locations worldwide and is sometimes referred to as Hyaline Quartz.

The natural color can range from a very common and pale pink to a more rare and expensive lustrous deep pink.

Rose quartz mainly contains white inclusions or veins, but this can also vary.

The most expensive crystals tend to be the largest with the deepest color.

The cheapest crystals will be either lab-grown or very small tumbled stones.

In this article, we will explore the different styles and uses of natural rose quartz crystals.

Synthetic rose quartz crystal products will not provide the same holistic healing qualities that natural stones do.

Synthetic rose quartz can often be formed out of pure plastic or glass

Rose Quartz Shapes

Rose quartz stone

A rough raw piece of rose quartz crystal will typically have a salt crystal-like structure to it with lots of interesting branch-like crystal networks and textures

They are typically found in hydrothermal veins within mines.  Thanks to its natural high-density, rose quartz crystals can then take on many different shapes and forms.

To take their new shape, rose quartz can be cut down, polished or processed.

It can be manually shaped in the form of a ball, an oval, a pillar, cute animals, flowers, puffed hearts and other objects.

But, more commonly created geometrically shaped rose quartz crystals are also known as platonic solid shapes due to their spiritual properties.

The use of these forms can be dated back to ancient Egyptian times and are also known as the five regular polyhedra.  Since their invention, each of these platonic solid shapes can be commonly found throughout art and architecture.

Every platonic shape is associated with a different worldly element.  These are:

The most commonly occurring milled pieces are small and only cost a few cents, as they are so frequently found.

Rare giant or inclusion-free finds can be breathtaking but are much harder to come by, so can fetch up to around $600,000 at auction.

The most expensive rose quartz stone ever sold was also the largest.

La Madona Rosa

La Madona Rosa is the world’s most important specimen of rose quartz as it set the world record for quartz transactions when last sold at auction.

It is the largest known piece of pink quartz crystal in existence, measuring 15.5 x 8 inches (39 x 20 cm).

This spectacular specimen was allegedly randomly discovered in a Brazilian mine, alongside one other important piece.

It is prized not only for its volume, but also for its stunning color inclusions and resemblance to portraits of the Madonna, or Virgin Mary.

Although hidden away from public view since 1997, this brilliant quartz stone is widely considered to be the gold standard of rose quartz.  No rose quartz stone that has since been discovered is comparable in size.

The next largest specimen of this excellent stone was also apparently discovered in the same mine.

This is The Van Allen Belt stone, which is on public display at the Washington USA Smithsonian Museum.  This stone is much smaller and does not bear resemblance to any Biblical characters, but is equally stunning and is nonetheless an impressive item.

Rose Quartz Stone Buy

When taken straight from the ground rose quartz stone tends to have a rough unpolished surface with a vitreous luster.

It is naturally very dense and has a heavy glass-like feel to it.

This quartzs is also naturally very hard, ranks 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness and should feel cold to the touch.

Rose quartz can also be sold in a polished stone form, but this is not its natural shape.

The organic stone will be put through multiple processes to gain this more refined look.

Translucent pink quartz stone specimens should feel lighter and appear more transparent than their cheaper cloudy stone counterparts.

Pink quartz is a rare sub-type of rose quartz gemstone that is regularly confused with other stones, so it is worth exercising caution when purchasing.

This soft pink stone is very sought-after as it can also be faceted to wear as craft jewelry, so is more expensive.

Rose quartz stone can also easily be faked using other gemstones, cheap plastic or even pink glass.

The genuine stone color should range from very pale to deep pink, but more expensive items can also include bursts of additional color.

When you buy rose quartz, you should also watch out for the following synthetic warning signs:

What Is The Color Of Rose Quartz

Everyday rose quartz crystals can be found in a range of cloudy light pink through to medium pink color.

Although you can sometimes buy rose quartz in the form of very rare and dazzling inclusion-free stones, these crystals normally will contain at least some fractions of white.

Other quartz color inclusions do exist but they are also much less frequent and are made up of separate elements.

The true origins of the pale pink color of rose quartz have been debated by scientists for many years.

In the highly regarded Manual of Mineralogy, the current experts conclude that small amounts of Ti+4 [titanium] appear to be the coloring agent.”

Previously it was thought to be from manganese [Mn+3].

For a full analysis of the true rose quartz crystal’s color source, you can read an 11 page paper on this debate published in 2007 by Caltech student Elisabeth Nadin here.

Rose Quartz Jewelry

Popular rose quartz jewelry products include necklaces, headbands, earrings, bracelets and anklets.  The jewelry comes in lots of very attractive varieties and can be enjoyed for many years in this form.

You can find jewelry items containing stunning uncut, unpolished or cut and polished stones.

Because rose quartz crystal are formed of silicon, rose quartz jewelry can safely be worn externally anywhere on the skin.

Ingesting quartz stone dust can be toxic.  So it is not advisable to place rose quartz jewelry internally, as this can be damaging or even fatal.

Rose quartz jewelry used as a Heart stone within your Chakra healing practice should be in the form of a necklace.  This places it closest to your heart for maximum healing energy effect.

When purchasing as a gift, the rose quartz birthstone month is January.  It is also the appointed love stone of the fifth wedding anniversary and is a great jewelry box alternative to the other anniversary gift option of wood.

Rose Quartz Meditation

Rose Quartz Self Love

All of the Chakra practices originate from the same ancient Nāda yoga metaphysical system, also known as the yoga of the sound.

Ancient Chakra healing properties are founded on the belief that all matter exists as vibrational energy and is associated with particular sound frequencies.

Where there is matter there is vibration or energy.

So, when we feel unwell or stressed, this is due to an interruption to our Chakra energy alignment.

The rose quartz minor gemstone has been used for its healing properties since the ancient Egyptians.  But in Nāda yoga, the rose quartz love stone is most commonly associated with the Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra lies at the centre of the seven Chakras and is closest to our heart. This rose quartz Heart Chakra association is why you will often find rose quartz cut as heart-shaped stones.

As the pink stone of unconditional self-love, the rich history of spiritual rose quartz uses is based on internal and external self-love and connectedness.

Its vibration is feminine energy so it also has associations with magical properties of the Divine Feminine, Feng Shui, the planet Venus, the moon and unconditional love.

Rose quartz benefits specifically include promoting unconditional love, friendships, harmony, connectedness, tissue repair and inner peace.

To benefit from its Heart Chakra healing properties, we must first cleanse the rose quartz stone.

Like other gemstones, a cleanse can be done with warm water, sage, sunlight or moonlight. This will remove any negative vibrations and allow the rose quartz stone to regain its full positive energy for meditation and intention setting rituals

The stone can then be wiped clean with mild soap and a soft cloth and put to use. This popular stone can then work alongside other spiritual healing practises such as meditation, yoga, chanting and listening to Heart Chakra music.

Thanks to the vibrational properties of rose quartz stone, its presence alone is thought to encourage pleasant dreams and feelings of connectedness.

The stone is even purported to help to improve our physical health and circulatory system.  But when it is combined with meditation for inner personal growth and self-reflection, we can learn to remove negative emotions and move towards an energetic state of pure love and realign our Chakras.
